🇷🇺 Top universities in Russia for recruiters

9 curated universities across computer science, AI, business and overall prestige. Data last reviewed June 2026.

What recruiters should know about Russia

Russian CS and mathematics talent is genuinely world-class - ITMO University has won the International Collegiate Programming Contest more times than any other university globally. Since 2022, many Russian tech professionals have relocated to Germany, Serbia, Armenia, Georgia and Israel, so candidates educated at MIPT or ITMO may now be based elsewhere. Global rankings have become less reliable for Russian universities post-2022 as some ranking bodies reduced participation.

How these lists are made: curated by a recruiter from major public rankings (QS, Times Higher Education and others) combined with on-the-ground knowledge from hiring managers and sourcers. Lists are not ranked in strict order and are not exhaustive. A university missing from a list is not a judgement on its graduates. Use these lists to widen and structure searches, not to filter people out. "Private" marks tuition-based or privately run institutions; no tag does not always mean free, see the country note.
